I like to <\/span>think<\/span> of life as <\/span>a<\/span> voyage.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We<\/span> sail<\/span> forward<\/span> with<\/span> the <\/span>wind<\/span> at <\/span>our<\/span> backs<\/span> toward<\/span> a world full of promises. <\/span>We<\/span> enjoy<\/span> the <\/span>scenery<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> dock on <\/span>foreign<\/span> lands, <\/span>we<\/span> encounter<\/span> other<\/span> cultures and people <\/span>who<\/span> are <\/span>both<\/span> identical<\/span> and <\/span>yet<\/span> so<\/span> different<\/span>. <\/span>We<\/span> face <\/span>storms<\/span> or the <\/span>calm<\/span> that<\/span> is<\/span> at first <\/span>restful<\/span>… <\/span>then<\/span> despairing<\/span>. All of <\/span>this<\/span> leads us to the <\/span>most<\/span> unknown<\/span> of destinations, <\/span>which<\/span> we<\/span> are in no <\/span>hurry<\/span> to <\/span>reach<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This <\/span>journey<\/span> has <\/span>universal<\/span> stages <\/span>that<\/span> each<\/span> of us <\/span>experiences<\/span> in <\/span>our<\/span> own<\/span> way<\/span>\u2014<\/span>serenely<\/span>, <\/span>beautifully<\/span>… or as best <\/span>we<\/span> can;<\/span> it<\/span> depends<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I <\/span>wanted<\/span> to invite <\/span>you<\/span> along<\/span> on <\/span>my<\/span> voyage, as <\/span>I\u2019ve<\/span> just<\/span> recently<\/span> passed<\/span> the <\/span>steep<\/span> milestone<\/span> of <\/span>sixty<\/span>. So <\/span>much<\/span> has been <\/span>said<\/span> about <\/span>this<\/span> age<\/span>, and <\/span>even<\/span> more about the <\/span>decade<\/span> that<\/span> precedes<\/span> it<\/span>, let <\/span>alone<\/span> the <\/span>ones<\/span> that<\/span> follow… <\/span>which<\/span> are <\/span>barely<\/span> acknowledged. S<\/span>tuck<\/span> between<\/span> the <\/span>archetypes<\/span> of the <\/span>sweet<\/span> grandma<\/span> or the <\/span>forgetful<\/span> old<\/span> lady <\/span>that<\/span> no one <\/span>quite<\/span> knows<\/span> what<\/span> to do <\/span>with<\/span>. <\/span>It\u2019s<\/span> safe<\/span> to <\/span>say<\/span> that<\/span> society, the media, and pop culture <\/span>haven\u2019t<\/span> given<\/span> us <\/span>much<\/span> help in <\/span>envisioning<\/span> these<\/span> years<\/span> as <\/span>a<\/span> time of <\/span>advantageous<\/span> transformation.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And <\/span>yet<\/span>! There are <\/span>so<\/span> many<\/span> benefits<\/span> to <\/span>aging<\/span>, <\/span>starting<\/span> with<\/span> the <\/span>fact<\/span> that<\/span> you<\/span> get<\/span> to have <\/span>them<\/span> all at <\/span>once!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
