What is the skin microbiome?

The skin of an adult is home to an average of 1,000 billion bacteria, and over 1,000 species of fungi! This microbiome, a unique ecosystem, lives on the surface and in the superficial layers of the epidermis. Its quality and composition vary from person to person depending on age, sex, body zone, immune system and factors such as humidity, pH and temperature, environment, diet, lifestyle… and even cosmetics!

The cutaneous microbiota plays an essential role in the development and functioning of the skin’s immune system, and its diversity helps control the balance that characterizes “healthy” skin. An imbalance in skin microbiota can be associated with dermatological diseases such as acne or allergies. That’s why it’s fundamental to take care of your skin microbiome. To optimize good health, we need to “feed” the good bacteria so that they remain supernumerary and are not overwhelmed by pathogenic bacteria, responsible for blemishes, blackheads, acne and skin allergies. Here again, the key word is balance!

Because the aim of Absolution skincare is to restore and preserve the skin’s ecosystem, we have naturally added prebiotics (Bioécolia) to some of our products to give your skin’s microbiota a boost. You’ll find this ingredient in our La Crème de Santé and in our La Cure Peau Nette.
