How to choose the right body moisturizer in five steps
Just like the skin of your face, the skin of your body has to cope with all sorts of environmental aggressors, many of which are the result of living in an urban area. Sun exposure, pollution, sudden differences in temperature when the seasons change… These are all factors that can dry your skin and make it more sensitive. So it’s essential that you moisturize your body every day in order to strengthen the hydrolipidic film and retain moisture in skin cells. These five steps will help you to find the ideal body moisturizer, with Absolution.
Step 1: Understand your skin’s needs
Do you need to nourish or hydrate your skin? You probably already know that dehydrated skin needs water. It’s easy to recognize dehydrated skin after showering, as it tends to feel tight and may go red in some areas. Undernourished skin, on the other hand, lacks lipids – and therefore oil. It has difficulty retaining moisture, and feels dry to the touch. This can make the skin uncomfortable, particularly around the legs, where it can look scaly and cracked, like “crocodile skin.”
If your skin is dehydrated, it needs moisture-rich active ingredients that will restore comfort and suppleness. Light, fluid textures (like body milks and lotions) are best, as they leave a protective film on the skin and prevent moisture from evaporating. If your skin is dry, it needs a richer, more comforting texture, and a product that contains nutrients to nourish your skin. Creams, balms and oils are ideal. If you have more specific needs (for example, you may want to restore firmness and elasticity to sagging skin), then look for active ingredients that firm and tone. These ingredients will also help to fight cellulite and stretch marks.

Step 2: Say no to mineral oils and esterified oils
Mineral oils and esterified oils (oils that are created by processing plant oils) are not beneficial for the skin and are not environmentally friendly either. They’re often incorporated into conventional cosmetic products as they take longer to oxidize than natural botanical oils. They’re also cheaper, so you may find them used in high proportions in the formulation of a cream, significantly reducing its cost price. But when it comes to their skin benefits, they don’t have any at all! Esterified oils no longer have any of the beneficial properties of the plant oils from which they were derived. So there are no essential fatty acids, vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants, etc.
Step 3: Give priority to natural active ingredients and botanical oils
Botanical oils and butters are rich in essential fatty acids. They not only nourish the skin, but also offer other benefits, such as soothing, anti-inflammatory, calming, and even beautifying. At Absolution, we have a few favorite bodycare ingredients. There’s Shea butter, with nourishing and repairing properties; Evening Primrose oil, which helps to rebuild the skin barrier; Sesame oil, which soothes skin irritations; Jojoba oil, which improves suppleness without leaving an oily residue; and Hazelnut and Hemp Seed oils, which promote cell renewal.

Step 4: Choose certified-organic formulas
When you choose certified-organic products, you embrace the generosity of Nature! All Absolution bodycare products are certified organic and made with botanical extracts, minerals and vitamins. Our formulas are as gentle on the body as they are on the planet, and don’t contain any harmful ingredients. They’re also exceptionally effective, as none of our active ingredients have been denatured. They are simply, absolutely, completely natural!
Chemicals try to mimic nature, but never quite succeed… By choosing natural, certified-organic products, you can give your skin everything it needs and obtain much better results than you would with conventional cosmetic products. Plus, you’re being kind to your skin, your health and the planet.
Step 5: Say yes to recyclable and recycled packaging
If you think that the packaging of our bodycare products has a bit of a gray tinge, it’s because it’s made from 100% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) packaging. This means that it’s made from recycled single-use plastic packaging. Once you’ve finished using your product, you can recycle the packaging again via the usual recycling channels, thus reducing its carbon footprint. You shouldn’t have to choose between caring for your body and caring for the planet. With Absolution, you can do both!
