The benefits of rosehip oil for the face

Rosehip oil and its benefits for the face

Rosehip oil is one of the favorite ingredients of Isabelle Carron, founder of Absolution. Why? Because it has so many excellent properties for the skin. Not only is it extremely nourishing, it also stimulates skin renewal. So you won’t be surprised to know that it’s an ingredient we love to use at Absolution!

When should you use rosehip oil on the skin?

Rosehip oil contains Vitamin C, a potent antioxidant, and Vitamin A, a retinoid from which retinol is extracted. It’s also rich in essential fatty acids, particularly oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid and gamma linolenic acid. Antioxidants help to combat the effects of free radicals – molecules that damage DNA and accelerate skin aging.

Rosehip oil can be used for different purposes in your beauty routine:

  • To remove makeup. Conventional cleansers and makeup removers may contain harsh chemicals, which can irritate dry skin and make it more sensitive. Rosehip oil makes an excellent, gentle alternative, to remove impurities and traces of makeup without drying out the skin of the face.
  • To nourish the skin. All day long, your skin is exposed to environmental aggressors (pollution, UV rays, wind, etc.), which can damage its hydrolipidic film. Over time, this causes the skin to become dry and irritated, and unable to retain sufficient moisture. The active ingredients in rosehip oil work to repair and nourish the skin, restoring its natural barrier function. And because it’s rich in essential fatty acids, it can meet the nutritional needs of dry, sensitive and fragile skin types. When applied regularly, this botanical oil helps to plump the skin and reactivate its protective functions.

Rosehip oil and sensitive skin

Skin that tends to be sensitive will love the benefits of rosehip oil, which has the advantage of being rapidly absorbed and highly repairing. It can also be used on blemish-prone skin, in synergy with purifying and astringent active ingredients. You’ll find this kind of combination in our new PAX oil, which was designed for skin that’s prone to acne and redness.

Rosehip oil also contains retinoids – compounds derived from Vitamin A that can help to reduce blemishes. It has regenerating properties, and can be incorporated into a complete routine for acne-prone skin as it can fade scars quickly, by promoting cell renewal in particular. Always apply rosehip oil after removing makeup and cleansing your skin, so it’s free of impurities.

How should you use rosehip oil?

Apply a few drops of rosehip botanical oil to your face, smoothing it into the skin with circular movements until it’s completely absorbed. You could also look for skincare products that contain this oil in combination with other active ingredients, such as our face oils. The benefits of rosehip oil can be dramatically enhanced when it’s used in synergy with other botanical oils, such as jojoba oil or sweet almond oil.
