Imagine a beauty product that can effortlessly remove makeup, cleanse, and soothe your skin in a single, simple step… This is exactly what a micellar water does – and this explains why it’s such an essential product in any skincare routine!

Why use a micellar water?

Designed to remove impurities without disrupting the skin’s natural balance, it provides a gentle yet effective solution to keep your skin fresh and radiant. You can incorporate this cleansing water into your daily beauty routine. Read on to find out how.

What is micellar water made of?

Micellar water is essentially purified water enriched with micelles – tiny clusters of surfactant molecules that attract and trap impurities, sebum and makeup. Micellar waters may also contain natural moisturizers, such as soothing plant extracts, to make them even more effective and gentle. They work with all skin moods. Our L’Eau Soir et Matin is a perfect example.

How does micellar water work?

As you’ve understood, micellar water is a cleanser made from water and micelles. The main characteristic of micelles is that they have both hydrophilic (attract water) and lipophilic (attract oils) properties.

As a result, these micelles are able to attract and trap impurities, traces of makeup, and sebum. You can apply micellar water to the skin with a cotton pad or cleansing pad. It works by forming an emulsion that captures “dirty” particles without spreading them over the face. In this way, the product not only deeply cleanses, but also refreshes the skin, acting as both a makeup remover and toner.

What is micellar water mostly used for?

Micellar water is a versatile beauty product that users love for two main reasons: it’s effective and it’s gentle! Below, you’ll find some of the ways you can use it…

Makeup remover

One of the main ways to use micellar water is to remove makeup. The micelles it contains trap impurities, so it can effectively lift away makeup from the face, eyes and lips. And because there’s no need to rub vigorously, it won’t damage the sensitive skin around the eyes, reducing the risk of irritation.

Good to know: micellar water and waterproof makeup
When it comes to removing waterproof makeup, it’s worth noting that micellar water is not as effective as makeup remover lotions, balms or oils.

Daily cleanser

Micellar water is also used as a cleanser. It removes sebum residue, as well as makeup, impurities and pollution that have built up during the day. Even if you don’t usually wear makeup, your skin still needs to be cleansed, and a micellar water formula is ideal for gentle cleansing.

Toner

After cleansing, micellar water can also be used as a toner to refresh the skin, tighten pores, and prep the face for other skincare products, such as serums and moisturizers.

On-the-go skin refresher

Micellar water offers a handy solution to refresh your skin throughout the day, especially if you’re on the move. It’s excellent for revitalizing the skin when you’re travelling, after a session at the gym, or any time you don’t have access to soap and water.

Can micellar water be used in place of a regular face cleanser?

Micellar water can be used as a facial cleanser if you prefer to cleanse your skin quickly and effectively, without water. Ideal for mornings when you’re in a rush and evenings when you’re feeling tired, it removes impurities and sebum without upsetting the skin’s pH balance. However, if your skin is very oily or prone to acne and blemishes, you may need to use a specific cleanser to be sure it will really purify your skin.

How to incorporate a micellar water into your daily skincare routine

Incorporating Absolution’s micellar water into your daily beauty routine is easy! Apply a small amount to a cotton pad, then gently wipe your face, eyes and lips, repeating until the cotton pad comes back clean. In the morning, you can use it to refresh your skin and prep it for other products. In the evening, you can use it to remove makeup, along with impurities that have gathered throughout the day.

However, we would like to point out that micellar water cannot take the place of your moisturizer. So make sure you moisturize just after using it, with a product that matches your skin mood.
