Journal of a sixty year old woman
I like to think of life as a voyage.
We sail forward with the wind at our backs toward a world full of promises. We enjoy the scenery, we dock on foreign lands, we encounter other cultures and people who are both identical and yet so different. We face storms or the calm that is at first restful… then despairing. All of this leads us to the most unknown of destinations, which we are in no hurry to reach.
This journey has universal stages that each of us experiences in our own way—serenely, beautifully… or as best we can; it depends.
I wanted to invite you along on my voyage, as I’ve just recently passed the steep milestone of sixty. So much has been said about this age, and even more about the decade that precedes it, let alone the ones that follow… which are barely acknowledged. Stuck between the archetypes of the sweet grandma or the forgetful old lady that no one quite knows what to do with. It’s safe to say that society, the media, and pop culture haven’t given us much help in envisioning these years as a time of advantageous transformation.
And yet! There are so many benefits to aging, starting with the fact that you get to have them all at once!
I don’t care for labels or narrow boxes, so I invite you to embark with me and accompany me on this peculiar journey, guided by my questions, indignations, obsessions, my passions, and my boundless curiosity. The world is so incredible that we would need to live a thousand years before we could start to tire of it. SixtyQueen—that suits me just fine! 😉
