What is the difference between CBD essential oil and hemp oil?
Plant oil, hydrosol, essential oil, natural extracts… it’s easy to get lost with these words, which is quite normal! Then adding substances such as CBD or hemp makes it even more complicated. Absolution makes it clear for you.
Where does CBD oil come from?
The essential oil derived from CBD, or cannabidiol, is extracted from hemp, a natural plant abundant in cannabinoids. This plant contains hundreds of active compounds. These include:
- Terpenes, the concentration responsible for the smell of the plant.
- CBD (or cannabidiol) with none of the effects of psychotropic drugs. It is not addictive. There’s no risk of “getting high” with this natural active ingredient.
- THC (or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), responsible for the psychoactive effects during narcotic use of the Cannabis sativa plant. The consumption of THC is prohibited in France.
CBD can be used legally in France if the product dose contains less than 0.3% THC.
Good to know: Which part of the plant is used for CBD?
That’s right: Cannabis sativa is the plant used to produce CBD oil and hemp plant oil. But it’s not the same section of the plant! CBD is derived from the plant’s flowers and leaves. Hemp oil, for its part, comes from the seeds and doesn’t contain cannabinoid.
Absolution has chosen to use CBD extract with cold supercritical CO2. This method uses carbon dioxide in a “supercritical” state to only extract the CBD molecules. The product obtained is highly pure and maintains the properties of the CBD. What is CBD essential oil?
Essential oil is a “volatile odorous substance produced by certain plants and which can be extracted in the form of a liquid obtained by the distillation of aromatic plants with water vapour”2. The CBD oil Absolution uses is extracted using cold supercritical CO2. The final product comes from a different extraction method. Strictly speaking, this is not an essential oil even if the aim is to extract the best from the plant so you benefit from it.
There is also hemp essential oil. This contains several active compounds of hemp like terpenes, but no cannabinoids, the psychoactive substance of the plant, like THC does. The plant oil is used in our organic cosmetic products. This is obtained by cold pressing the hemp seeds.

CBD essential oils come at all prices and in many forms such as:
- CBD full spectrum oil (spectrum complete): this is a complete extraction of the hemp. The resulting oil contains CBD (cannabidiol), as well as other elements such as terpenes or flavonoids. - CBD broad spectrum oil (large spectrum CBD). This is almost identical to full spectrum CBD oil. The main difference? It doesn’t contain any traces of THC thanks to an additional step after extraction.

If your skin is still damp after cleansing, this is the ideal time to apply the oil. The damp helps to seal in moisture, allowing the oil to better penetrate the skin. Pour a few drops of CBD oil into the palm of your hand. With the bottle’s integrated pipette, you can use the right dose: two to three drops. Warm up the oil between your palms then gently apply it to your face in a light circular massaging motion. Be sure to cover the entire face, not forgetting the neck.
To promote better absorption, gently pat your face with your fingers. This also stimulates blood circulation. The oil will then penetrate the skin more effectively.
