Argan oil: an oil with all the qualities of a balm

Argan oil and its benefits for the face

Argan oil is extracted from the kernels of argan nuts – the fruit of the argan tree. You’ll find it in the form of a pure oil that can be applied to the skin or ingested, and in the form of capsules that are taken orally. At Absolution, we’ve harnessed the moisturizing powers of argan oil to protect the skin of your face and eye area.

When is argan oil the right oil for you?

If the skin of your face is prone to dryness, argan oil could be perfect for you. With its smooth, silky texture and high content of Vitamin E and fatty acids, it provides the nourishment your skin really needs. Studies* have shown that argan oil is able to protect the skin barrier and improve the overall appearance of the skin. Plus, if you suffer from eczema or psoriasis, or have atopic skin, argan oil can relieve itching and feelings of tightness. So, if you have sensitive skin and are looking for natural ingredients to care for the skin of your face, argan oil makes an excellent choice. A word of warning, however: make sure it doesn’t contain any added fragrance or preservatives, as these could make skin problems worse.

At Absolution, we’ve put all these benefits in a bottle! Argan oil is one of the oils in our addictive (pun intended) facial oil, Addiction. Fragrance- and preservative-free, Addiction can be used all year round, morning and evening, to nourish, protect and soothe your skin. Argan oil is also one of the key active ingredients in La Crème du Soir, which works to relax, restructure and soften your skin while you sleep. As the name suggests, you apply it before going to bed. And if you want to enhance its benefits, you can simply add a drop of the Absolution Booster that’s most appropriate for your skin type.

Does argan oil have any side effects?

Numerous studies have established that argan oil is considered safe for topical use, i.e., on the skin. However, in some people it may trigger contact dermatitis – an allergic reaction that includes symptoms such as a rash, redness, and itching in the application area. For this reason, it’s always best to do a test before using a cosmetic product that contains argan oil. The easiest way to do this is to apply a drop on the skin of your forearm first. After 24 hours, if there’s no sign of any reaction, it’s safe to use your skincare product with argan oil on a larger area of skin.

How do you recognize a good argan oil?

If you want to be certain that an argan oil is a good-quality one, the first thing to do is make sure that the product contains nothing but argan oil! So look for the words “100% argan oil,” which should be clearly indicated on the packaging. Next, see if it carries a certification label. The Ecocert label, for example, guarantees that the oil is organic. And finally, look for the origin. Morocco is the only country where argan trees grow, so if it says on the packaging that the oil was produced in another country, it probably isn’t a genuine argan oil.
