The benefits of Nigella oil for the face

Nigella oil (also known as black seed oil) is a botanical oil that’s known for its purifying and antioxidant properties, but is also often recommended for sensitive skin.

Why use Nigella oil on the face?

Nigella oil has many benefits for the skin, and its composition makes it effective for tackling many different skin concerns.

  • Dry skin. It contains essential fatty acids, which nourish the skin deep down.
  • Spots and pimples. Nigella oil has antibacterial properties, so it helps to reduce the risk of spots developing on the face.
  • Skin conditions. The thymoquinone in Nigella oil gives it anti-inflammatory properties, so it can act on inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema.
  • Skin aging. Nigella oil contains several natural antioxidants, which help to prevent the appearance of wrinkles.

How should you apply Nigella oil on the face?

Nigella oil can be used on all skin types, so it could be incorporated into a skincare routine for oily skin, but also for dry or combination skin. There are different ways to apply Nigella oil to really reap its benefits:

  • In a daily skincare product. Add a few drops to a neutral plant oil or skincare products that you already use.
  • A Nigella oil face mask. You could use Nigella oil in a moisturizing face mask, for example by mixing it with Jojoba oil or Tamanu oil – two repairing and soothing ingredients that can be found in several of Absolution’s certified-organic skincare products.
